Perth Hindu Temple

The Welcome Lady, Temple Entrance
The idea of a Hindu Temple in Perth had been a topic of discussion for some years before its birth on the 16th June 1985 at an informal gathering of friends at the Australia Asia Hall. The Association was formalised with a protem committee on 14th September the same year in the presence of Mata Ajaypriyananda of Sydney Ramakrishna Mission, who happened to be visiting Perth that day. All Hindu community groups embraced the idea and were represented in the protem committee.

The purchase of the Temple site at Huntingdale was inspired by fervent prayers to Shri Ramakrishna. It was approved by the AGM on 10th August 1986. Later, Swami Shantanandaji Saraswati on his first visit to the site, commented "It is a very auspicious place. A great soul meditated here for many years."
Swami Shantanandaji consecrated the land with three days of Navaratri Puja from 29th September to 1st October 1987.

On Krishna Janamashtami, 3rd September 1988, Swamiji visited again at the Temple site to consecrate the place where the Temple now stands. e bore water at the site was inaugurated that day as well. Various stones, grains, bricks and jewelry items were placed under the soil amidst very emotional scenes.

The construction of the building commenced in March 1989 around Shivratri. It was completed in 1990 and the icons, including that of Lord Ganesha (donated by Dr.Sivendran family), were installed in their present place over a three day ceremony from 7th to 9th February, 1990 ( Thai Poosam ). On Ramnavami, a month or so later, a Chinese gentleman dropped by at the Temple and said he had an Indian wooden sculpture which, in his dreams had been demanding to be taken to an Indian Temple. A few hours later he left a beautiful sculpture of Hanumanji with us.

A constant stream of Swamis have visited the Temple since its opening. In May 1992, Swami Haridas Giri visited and early the following year sent to the icons of Lord Vishnu and Lord Subramanya with their consorts. These were installed on the Guru Poornima day on 3rd July 1993. Although plans had not been made, miraculously again, Swami Damodaranandaji and Swami Shridharanandaji Maharaj, of Ramakrishana Mission Fiji and Lucknow respectively, visited at the Temple that day.

Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Perth

Diwali Decorations at SST, Perth
Shree Swaminarayan Temple (Mandir), Perth, Australia Inc. was incorporated on the 25th day of July 2006 as a non-profit organisation. The organisation strives to propagate and promote the true and original precepts & tenets of the Shree Swaminarayan Faith ordained by Lord Swaminarayan together with other alms and objectives set out in the Organisation’s Constitution. The followers of Lord Swaminarayan are a part of Sanatan Dharma (Hindu Faith) similar to the followers of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna and Lord Nar-Narayan. Shree Swaminarayan Temple (Mandir), Perth, Australia Inc. belongs to a larger group of Swaminarayan Organisations and Temples around the world. The first Swaminarayan Temple in the world was built in India on land donated by the British Government over two hundred years ago. The Temple still exists in Ahmedabad and is used by thousands of devotees daily. Alongside the many Swaminarayan Temples in India, there are over 30 Temples located in major cities in North America, Europe and Africa.
All of these Temples hold cultural and religious activities, where people attend and take part on a voluntary basis. These temples become a focal point for the community of Hindus living nearby. For some, as they get older, it becomes their life; a place where they can pray, meet people and find solace.
Most of the early settlers were residing North of Perth CBD and the Students on the South of the CBD. In 2007, Beechboro, Darch and Ellenbrook and the northern suburbs were most preferred for the local Haribhaktos for residency. Hence, the potential in interest and future growth was identified to be in the northern suburbs. Preference and interest was registered around the above noted suburbs. Eventually lot 247 on 211 Marshall Road, Bennett Springs was on sale. With assessment and strategy this property was put forward for perusal to Maharajshree, Santos and Haribhaktos. It was acceptable and the land pursued. This was a major milestone for Perth Satsangis and for the early settlers who were fortunate to observe the growth in our Satsang and more importantly a base in Perth. Mandir site is approximately 10 acres of land located at 211 Marshall Road, Bennett Springs, WA 6063, Perth, Australia. Site is approximately 20Km from Perth CBD, neighbouring to Beechboro. Ellenbrook and Darch are approximately 15 minutes drive. Part of the site acquisition included a habitable 3 bedroom house, a large shed, operational bore system, an above ground concrete water holding tank, a stream passing across site. Prior to acquisition it was identified that we would have restrictions on being able to fully develop. This was factored into the development strategy which still enabled us to develop approximately 50% of the site. This was deemed acceptable and fitted nicely into the bigger picture.

Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Sydney

Idol of Worship at SSTY

From the dawn of the millennium in the year 2000; members of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya began migrating to Sydney to better their lives, to make Australia their home and of course to promote the glory and message of Lord Shree Swaminarayan.
Just as our forefathers were pioneers who migrated abroad for a better life, there is a large flow of devotees coming to Sydney, Australia. His Holiness Acharya Maharajshree and Bhuj Saints have stated in their past speeches that they want to see the Swaminarayan Sampradaya grow and prosper throughout the world.
Followers migrate all over the world for many reasons, but the one valuable item they take with them is SATSANG. Without Satsang a person can degenerate, but with Satsang a person can flourish and become stronger. By associating with Saints and visiting our temples, devotees can enhance their knowledge of our religion. Saints of Bhuj Mandir have written letters to the congregations of Temples throughout the world, guiding them to remain within the wishes and teachings of Lord Shree Swaminarayan.
With such guidance and words of wisdom of Lord Shree Swaminarayan and with the divine blessings from His Holiness Acharya Maharajshree and the Saints of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir, Bhuj Kutch; devotees first arrived in Sydney in 1999. As per the guidelines of our Sampraday, all the devotees performed Daily Aarti, Thaal, Katha, Varta, Kirtan, Dhun and Chesta at their residences. After a while a collective satsang-sabha was being held every Sunday at devotee's residences.

By the prophecy that the numbers of the Hindus believers will swell in Australia...the idea of SVT arose and this temple was constructed in the traditional Indian architecture based on Agama Sastras so that it would be a light house for spiritual guidance and solace. The Sri Venkateswara Temple Association was formed on 17th November 1978 in Sydney. The Mahakumbhabhishekam (consecration of the temple by sacred waters) of the Lord Ganapathi ( Sri Varasiddhi Vinayagar) and the Main temple of Sri Venkateswara, Sri Maha Lakshmi and Sri Andal took place on 30th June, 1985 with ample good will and support from a very wide circle of devotees both in Australia and abroad. The Tirupathi Tirumala Devasthanam was helpful by giving us both encouragement and financial help. The temple is built on top of a hilly area 400 feet above sea level. The temple has four 'Praharam' (encircling corridors).Helensburgh is a place of natural beauty with hills and groves surrounding it where Lord Balaji (Sri Venkateswara) with Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Shiva (Shri Chandramouliswarar) along with Sri Tripurasundari remained here bestowing their blessing to the devotees. The Construction of Sri Venkateswara Temple started in 1978 when a small group of people had a vision to build a Hindu temple according to Vedic principles (Agama Sastras). They selected this divine site in Helensburgh because "it is said the gods always play where groves are, near rivers, mountains and springs and in towns with pleasure -gardens " -Brihatsamhita.
